Fed: PM resists point-scoring off ALP leadership woes
CANBERRA, April 29 AAP - Prime Minister John Howard today resisted the temptation tomake what he described as cheap political points from Labor's leadership strife.
"I'm not making any comment on that," Mr Howard told Radio 3AW.
"Whatever I say will run the risk of being seen as self-serving."
Opposition Leader Simon Crean is demanding that his predecessor Kim Beazley categoricallyrule out a future challenge for the top job and end the destabilisation of the party.
But like Labor, Mr Howard said he would prefer to focus on the Medicare reforms heannounced yesterday than Labor's internal woes.
"It is a matter for the Labor Party and I think the Australian public reacts rathernegatively to the leaders of political parties that aren't experiencing those things tryingto score cheap political points."
