NSW: Torch travels to tenterfield

SYDNEY, Aug 22 AAP - The Olympic torch will today travel to entertainer Peter Allen's
birthplace - Tenterfield.

The flame will be carried 204km as it leaves the New England university town of Armidale
and heads north on the way to Homebush via Guyra, Glencoe, Glen Innes, then Deepwater
and Tenterfield.

An Aboriginal welcoming ceremony will take place as the torch is carried past Coorambah,
before stopping again in the afternoon at the Australian Standing Stones.

A rendition of former Tenterfield resident Peter Allen's famous song, I Still Call
Australia Home, is expected after permission was given by Games sponsor Ansett earlier
this month.

The airline has put a gag on the tune at all other Olympic events because of its strong
association with competitor Qantas, which has used it in its ads.

The flame travelled more than 300km yesterday through northern New South Wales from
Moree to Inverell before finishing in Armidale.
